SPIRITUAL ABORTION?

The title with the question mark above may arouse some interesting thoughts that all true Christians probably need to give serious consideration!  We all know what abortion is, and is usually the choice of a mother (perhaps even the father, or both) and assisted by a doctor to kill an unwanted child. On the other hand, under normal circumstances a miscarriage is not by direct choice and is caused by something being wrong with the mother’s system or a physical flaw in the embryo, to name a couple of reasons, which will be explained later. Of course we are talking in symbolic or analogical terms for spiritual abortion. Jesus made it clear that there is no giving of marriage (No sexual union to bring about pregnancy) among those of the angelic or spirit realm. (Mark 12:25) so just as physical abortions take place in the human body and realm, so a Spiritual abortion would also have to take place while the begotten child of God is still in this flesh.

Some who are alive today will still be alive when Jesus Christ returns to this earth in the very near future! What could possibly cause a Spiritual abortion (in symbol or analogy) if at all possible? Would God even allow such a thing to happen to those considered Spiritual and begotten in this physical life? Please read on, especially COG members of this end-time era, for Christ said if one becomes lukewarm (which can happen in a variety of ways) and does not recognize it and repent, they will be vomited out of the body! (Rev. 3:14-21)  Is this the same by analogy as abortion or a miscarriage, but the terminating of a potential spirit life? So as you can see, this article is for those who think they are in a spiritual state today and are true Christians.

Many years ago, the mother of my children had an early embryonic miscarriage between her second and third child. The doctor explained to us both that imperfections, defects in an embryo could cause an expectant mother to miscarry, and that he had seen many situations like ours happen. He told us this was nature’s way of taking care of a defect in an embryo that could not survive or was lacking something that might cause it to be terribly deformed; and could not ever fully develop. The body would abort an embryo like this on its own, most of the time, which he termed a “natural” miscarriage. Normally, (as in our case) this would occur within the first few weeks and the embryo would just be passed out of the body, but there were things he explained about the mother’s body that could also cause it to miscarry, even later on. I understand in some cases of a tubule pregnancy, the embryo not being in the womb may have to be surgically removed within just 2 or 3 weeks’ time, to avoid any un-reparable damage to the woman. (I am not familiar with all of the procedures or medical terms for these things, and this time frame may also not be exactly correct—but it is close.) The point to be made from this and in this article however, is there are some similarities or spiritual parallels to these things. Even though a miscarriage can and does happen—growth stops, preventing this new life from proper development as a healthy and normal baby—as the doctor explained to us years ago, the embryo or in some cases even an early stage of the fetus, it is then expelled from the body. Something wrong in the body of the mother, her system or in the embryo itself would cause what is termed a miscarriage. This is not the same as a deliberate and planned abortion that is for the purpose of killing the unborn child—taking away its potential of ever being a first fruit child of God, after maturity and conversion!

In writing to the Corinthian Church, Paul made it clear in 1Cor. 3:1-4 that some of those brethren were behaving like those still carnal, “mere men” but he called them “babes” in Christ, meaning they were still very spiritually immature and not growing, (2 Pet. 3:18) even though the indication is that they were already baptized. The apostle Paul sensed that the people he was referring to were not growing enough spiritually and we will see another example of this later from another passage of Scripture. In this Scriptural example, Paul was concerned about their spiritual well-being. This is also made clear in chapter five, and the apostle had to tell them that they were seriously lacking in spiritual understanding, as they were “puffed up” and putting up with sin! They were allowing a serious sin to go on in their midst that needed to be eradicated before doing further spiritual damage to the sinning person, as well as the rest of the congregation. Paul seemed to understand that if this person were to die in the flesh at that stage of his spiritual growth, he could still possibly be saved in the judgment period. As the situation turned out, the man was obviously convicted by his dis-fellowshipping, acknowledged his transgression and God granted him repentance (2 Tim.2:25) in just a short time. (Possibly less than one year, as there is approximately one year between the writing of the 1st & 2nd epistle) Paul encouraged that the offender be brought back into the fold, (2 Cor.2) and that he should be shown love and compassion by the congregation. In chapter 7 Paul again compliments them for their diligence and godly sorrow that has produced true repentance and that he rejoices over such things.

However, this same sluggishness of growth and putting up with sin comes up again in 2 Cor.11 and Paul tries to help them recognize that there is only one true Jesus, one Holy Spirit and one Gospel message of salvation to enter the kingdom of God in our time! He tells them about counterfeits—Satan’s servants. Satan has his counterfeit church and ministers that would palm themselves off as ministers of light or righteousness. But there are others that are even more subtle, as the apostle Paul also warned against. Acts 20:30   "Also from among yourselves (Inside the congregations of the COG) men will rise up, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after themselves.”

These individuals want to be right in the very COG to deceive, divide or even falsely accuse and cast out the saints of God to try and destroy them. This applies to some who are considered ministers today. If Satan can get to a minister, he can do a much greater amount of damage to the flock! The truth of salvation began to be corrupted very early in the life of the Church of God. These ministers of Satan are cunning and crafty and lie in wait to deceive the elect, and it is possible for the elect to be deceived if they are not on guard! This has happened down through time, and we see this happening again today as many false prophets profess to be ministers & members of the body of Christ in various COG groups. (See Matt.7:15-20, ch. 24:24-25, Eph.4:14 & James 2:1-10)

I have personally met some of these individuals over the years of being in the COG and have come to recognize their fruits. Some were detected easily and quickly, simply by paying attention to what God commands us to do. Most in this category are not in the COG, having either left on their own or been put out by authorities over them, who also recognize their fruits. Some ministers can get caught up in compromises today and have to repent of that, whereas others have become cunningly deceitful and malicious, even cleverly perverting the truth to their unsuspecting congregations. But sometimes this bad fruit takes a number of years and many different wrong examples to manifest itself clearly with such individuals. We have to be on guard against any kind of “spiritual poison”, have the faith of Christ and the gifts of the Holy Spirit active in us—then be willing to seek truth and acknowledge the truth for what it is, when we see it. (2Tim.2:15 & 2John 9-11)

This is where Spiritual abortion by analogy comes into play.

Satan’s desire is to divide and conquer, to destroy as many of Gods called and chosen ones as he can and he will use whatever means possible to do it. If he cannot get us to disqualify or abort ourselves, (which is possible if we cannot let go of some of the world around us, are not really growing, repenting and overcoming, or even turn back after some spiritual growth and knowledge) then he will try to use other methods of deceit and deception. Satan will try to use one of his agents and infiltrate the COG to try and divide the flock or to subtly get them off track enough that they are not ready for spiritual birth. Heb. 5:12-14 (RSV) “For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need some one to teach you again the first principles of God's word. You need milk, not solid food; 13  for every one who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a child.  14  But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their faculties trained by practice to distinguish good from evil.”  (This can also happen through negligent lukewarm-ness and compromise, causing a failure of proper growth, both in the ministry and those who follow them.)

If Satan, through a minister, can get brethren to accept and “put up with” a few twisted Scriptural concepts, allow just a little heresy from time to time in sermons or turn a blind eye to certain abuses of the office or a little bit of personal dishonesty, then he can destroy a whole congregation that way—through that corrupt minister. They will not be able to teach truth in the kingdom! Satan is compared to a thief who wants to steal your crown and destroy you spiritually, (John 10:10) and a lion who only wants to devour, and we are admonished to watch out for him. (1Pet. 5:8) How can we know that those once called and chosen can suffer a “Spiritual abortion” and be lost, if what we have seen already is not enough? All those who have studied the word of God already know that there is the admonition to hold fast to TRUTH in order to keep our crown. (Rev.3:11 & Jude 3)  We are told to test the spirits to determine if they are of God or not, (1John 4:1) avoiding those who teach things contrary to true doctrines and cause offenses, (Rom.16:17-18) to prove all things and hold fast to what is good. (1Thess.5:21)

We are warned By Christ about false prophets and wolves in sheep’s clothing, (Matt.7:15-20) and about how those who follow after these individuals may eventually be corrupted to the point of falling away or willful sinning, then they cannot be granted repentance all over again. (Heb.6:4-6 & ch.10:26-31) (See the article on REPENTANCE which also covers some of these same points from the perspective of repentance.)

But there is something else in Scripture that helps us to be more clearly aware and able to see servants of Satan the devil that are very dangerous to us, if we are honest about what we see! We can recognize those in the ministry who are among us, that would care less if we make it or not, but we have to be willing to be honest with ourselves about their fruits. You may be the only hope for another member of the body to survive an attack from one of Satan’s ministers! (Rom.12:9-10 & Gal. 6:9-10) Christ does give us something to look for in the inspired word that really brings out the fruit of an agent of Satan or a failing minister in the COG! He said that He would never leave us nor forsake us if we are trying to do our part, (Heb.13:5-6) and a true servant of Christ would have conduct of character that is Christ-like and compassionate. (Heb.13:7-8, John 10:11 & 1John 3:16) A false prophet or minister of Satan can cause someone (By subtle and wrong influence) to get bitterly offended over any neglect, or perceived injustice, even real lies and perversions of truth and abuse. The person thereby becoming defiled and be aborted from the body of Christ! (Heb.12:12-15) Could this really happen, causing (by analogy) a Spiritual abortion of a child of God?

Let us examine John 10 in conclusion of this article, as it might help us understand this a little bit better.

John 10:11-13 (NAS)   "I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep. (Actions of a truly dedicated servant of Christ would show these kinds of fruits) 12  "He who is a hireling, and not a shepherd, who is not the owner of the sheep, beholds the wolf coming, and leaves the sheep, and flees, and the wolf snatches them, and scatters {them.} (This is the fruits of the very careless and of false prophets) 13 {"He flees} because he is a hireling, and is not concerned about the sheep.”  An agent of Satan counterfeiting himself as an angel of light would not lay his life on the line to save one or all of God’s sheep. He would especially abandon or turn on any of the “sheep” who could recognize him as a wolf in sheep’s clothing, wanting them gone before they had a chance to expose him.  Eph 5:9-13  (for the fruit of the light {consists} in all goodness and righteousness and truth), 10 trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord. 11        And do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them; 13  But all things become visible when they are exposed by the light, for everything that becomes visible is light.”  (NAS)  Christ is light and truth, but Satan the prince of darkness!

Another example we can see is found in Luke 15:4-6, 10  (RSV)   V. 4 "What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost, until he finds it?  5 And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. 6 And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, 'Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost.'---10   Just so, I tell you, there is joy before the angels of God over one sinner who repents."

As in the example with the hireling, a false shepherd would have no real concern for this lost sheep and would not even take the time to go after it—actually being glad it is gone. In fact, as I have witnessed with others and even had happen to me, a minister of Satan would drive out true Christians in the hope of them being destroyed. He would corrupt those around him until they would also become rotten and corrupt, just like a rotten apple in a basket will rot all the other apples eventually, if not gotten out of the basket. A COG leader could do the same thing in one of these groups, simply by neglect of handling errors or potential problem ministers that may twist the truth. Have you examined your minister lately? Anyone can make a mistake, but true shepherds do not pervert and twist the truth nor even entertain such thoughts for their own agenda. No real shepherd of Christ’s would have a malicious attitude toward any other child of God or conduct themselves in this manner, nor would true Godly leadership allow this to continue, if seen. HWA, an apostle of Jesus Christ in the true COG, always taught that the “rotten apples” of the ministry had to be gotten out quickly before further damage could be done to the flock.  We are living in some very serious times, now in the last era of Laodicea and we have to be alert, or else we may become just another (symbolic) miscarriage because of our own lukewarm compromises in this begotten stage, or an aborted child of God at the hands of an agent of Satan the devil, through deceit and deliberate deceptions. It is ultimately up to us though, because Satan cannot do one thing that God will not allow, so if we stay close to God and have a right mindset, we will stay “in the womb” of the “Mother of us all”. (Gal.4:26) Christ said He will never leave us nor forsake us, and He does not lie. Unlike the abortions of helpless physical babies, (which is happening every day somewhere in this country; even being done to harvest body parts, as has been revealed happening in the government supported “Planned Parenthood”! What a travesty of justice that is!) we are not helpless and can avoid being aborted from the body of Christ if we stay close to God and constantly maintain our spiritual health through Bible study, fasting, prayer and fellowship with Christ and those of like mind! However, we certainly need to avoid those who will travel the way of the world (Even if in the COG congregations) at times, to satisfy their lust and desire to get or take from others. This is clearly the wrong type of fruit.

Spiritual abortions (by analogy) can and does happen to some from time to time, who allow themselves to ingest some form of spiritual poison and then never repent and go to God for healing! (Spiritual poison is anything that is foreign or detrimental to spiritual growth and divides our convictions, after once being converted or “begotten”. Failure to be repentant and becoming hostile to truth is a form of spiritual poison.) We can prevent this from ever happening to any of us, if we are diligent and alert, always drawing on the great power of God for the spiritual strength to resist any satanic influence, which will to take our focus off of Matt.6:33 and why we were called!  Another recent article may be of interest and useful is titled—Christianity or “Christianity”. This is becoming a trend for some to water down their approach in discerning the difference, blending true Christianity with the false. Keep alert to things that could cause you to become a Spiritual Abortion!
