Cause and effect

Is there a cause for every effect and if so who can really see this in advance and avoid the pain of wrong choices? Yet every day brings on more choices that have to be made and more effects from those choices, so we need to learn how to make right choices.

Very few today rely on God to guide them in everything, as a way of living. It seems to be a built in human weakness to think of self first and our own best interests or desires and wants, which can bring on something we do not want—simply because cause and effect is a natural law. Some may believe that whatever happens is meant to happen that way, no matter what—but that is really not true, according to what the Bible reveals. (See the article titled “Alternate Reality” for more understanding in this area.) However, in some minds, that may get one into the subject of predestination and wrong thinking in THAT area, which is not the subject of this article.)

When Adam and Eve made their choice in the Garden to ignore God and have their own way, it opened the door for sin & death to humanity! That was cause and effect in action. God did not lie, as Satan accused! When Cain was angry several years later, God talked to him and told him what he needed to do, but Cain did not listen, murdering his brother through that anger. Cain was marked and separated and that was also cause and effect in action. However the whole world at this point is suffering and it all took root because of that first wrong choice.

With the world in the sad state it is in and troubles of various kinds on the increase, who today has the wisdom to determine; what is the cause of all of these evils that befall the many? Is it their lack of honest acknowledgement of sin and an unrepentant attitude/unwillingness to change? Did Christ Himself prophecy about the present conditions on the world scene and that they would get worse? (Matt.24:7-8) Yes, He did. Do we all need to come face to face with our own sins, individually and as a nation, so they can be repented of? Yes, we do.  Does that apply more specifically to some than others? According to life style, yes, but let us take this into consideration; God cannot and does not lie—ever. (See Titus 1:2 & Heb.6:18) So what more can we learn about cause and effect?

Back in the Old Testament, we find this encouraging passage;

2 Chron. 7:14       "if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” Thinking physically; As a people who used to at least claim to be one nation under God, we were once as a physical nation, the descendants of ancient Israel, who were God’s chosen and had received those promised blessings. However, that all seems to be history as this nation is being over-run by various aliens and repugnantly sinful laws. End time prophecy is becoming reality—it is cause and effect in action. (See America & Britain in Prophecyby R.F. McNair on the booklets page. Along with that an article titled An American Prophecy is also available to download from the articles page.)

So let us ponder this title; “Cause and effect” within our own personal province or realm of control, while reading the rest of the article.

For those who still do look to God, striving to be His people, (which pretty much comes down to the scattered but true COG and those who have begun to honestly and genuinely seek to know more of His truth.) we have to be willing to separate ourselves from those who would resort to “wicked ways”, even if they do not recognize them as such! Do I mean even adult family members? Yes! Why??— to show we are clearly willing to put God and His ways first! In order also that we might still have the hand of God about us for protection and blessings, and perhaps it might, through God’s mercy, extend to others in the family. Think about this example in Scripture; 1 Cor. 7:12-13 “But to the rest I, not the Lord, say: If any brother has a wife who does not believe, and she is willing to live with him, let him not divorce her. 13 And a woman who has a husband who does not believe, if he is willing to live with her, let her not divorce him.” We all have a lot of things to learn, so what are the benefits of following Gods Biblical instructions on this, for other family members? V.14 “For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband; otherwise your children would be unclean, but now they are holy.”

Even in the Family, we have to set ourselves individually to obey God, by keeping His commanded ways, given throughout the Bible. We have to be committed first to God and seek first His kingdom, plus His righteousness! Matt.6:33) Two truly converted parents will seek to do this personally and as a team, fulfilling their separate roles and knowing God is their Captain and protector, even the head of the marriage. So by using this example, we should begin to see how cause and effect works in the family. To begin to think selfishly and divide from the mate; to have our own way (which is a cause) and ignore the commandments and these instructions, will bring on ourselves and possibly other family members, (from this cause and now disobedience) many unwanted affects. Expand that out now, (along with many other wrong choices and sinful ways put into practice) to a whole nation, looking at the USA and you have the picture of cause and effect, happening on a regular basis.

But as for the COG, we have this passage in the NT to remind us; Heb 3:12  Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God;” (NKJ thru-out, unless otherwise noted) Doesn’t it seem wise to you that a nation in such trouble as the USA is, that its leaders should look to the one true source of power that can help in time of need?  This takes leaders with vision and the wisdom to know why things are going wrong, willing to follow God through His word, in order to rightly guide the people. Again, bring this very thing back down to the family. However, in the general public that is not happening today and should be rather obvious, as this nation is in some serious decline! (Isa.9:16—See Nation in Decline for more on this)

Why do all the bad things happen that are now happening?

It is cause and effect. Does anyone have enough wisdom and courage (our physical leaders) to check in the Bible for answers, then to explain this for the benefit of those who suffer?? We in the COG do go back and check Deut.28 and Lev.26, reminding ourselves of the blessings and curses and why they were each given. These are end time prophetic passages! Sometimes we also need to step back and evaluate what is really going on in our own lives and ask ourselves how much God is really involved with our decisions. (See article “Are things going Wrong” for more on this particular subject) Cause and effect does not become irrelevant because we are now a part of the true COG body—the spiritual organism—so we must be on guard for Satan’s subtle deceptions and not be allowing them to get a foothold on our lives and decisions after our calling and initial conversion.

This also applies to all the individuals of the COG of our time. (Rev.3:14-21) To really understand it all, we need what the Bible offers and that Spiritual guidance Christ promised through the Holy Spirit, to those who are led by the Spirit. (John 16:13 & 14:26) But even that will not help that much, if we are unwilling to follow the lead of the Spirit of God and His Word, in everything and at all times, even in the hard choices. We cannot hold back as some do, who want to pick-and-choose when they will let God lead. That is not using wisdom and will not help us avoid some of the cause and effect in our lives. No matter what the circumstance or trial, the truly converted will rely on God, knowing it is a matter of our own salvation! However, God has not called everyone to have that Spiritual guidance, even in the COG realm and therefore some cannot even recognize when they are breaking a Commandment, nor that actions like that have consequences. Others may have become so calloused by habitual sins and lukewarm compromise, they have forgotten all about the automatic cause and effects of life. (See Consequences of Sin for more on this subject.)

(This can happen to any of us, even in the COG, if we let down, become lukewarm and take our eyes off of God and His ways, for any length of time. Satan is always ready to pounce on the unsuspecting. David, for example, said to be a man after God’s own heart, let himself drift (the cause) and ended up sinning some serious sins! The effect of those sins caused a great amount of pain and suffering for others, even the innocent child born of those sins.)

God takes care of a lot of things for us when we just rely on Him to lead us to the next step we need to take, then have the faith He will do so, through the study of His Word and the power of the Holy Spirit. He promises protection and blessing for obedience. We must keep in mind that the Bible also tells us that the carnal mind is an enemy to God and His laws, or ways that lead to righteousness. The carnal minded person very seldom will use enough wisdom to avoid breaking any of the Commandments of God, when they feel it is to their advantage to do so. (Rom 8:7 & 13) The carnal minded will resort to deception or lies to gain something, which actually violates several commandments, but those practicing such things seem to be oblivious to sin, which is the cause of most ills. (1John 3:4) There are several examples in Scripture we can learn from, if we are only willing.

Dan 12:10   "Many shall be purified, made white, and refined, but the wicked shall do wickedly; and none of the wicked shall understand, but the wise shall understand.”

We must learn and then fix it solidly into our minds that cause and effect is still very much the rule of life. God does show mercy for a time; giving us the opportunity to learn and change if we are willing. He also does try and test us for sincerity and He knows best how to get us to see some things that we are being stubborn in—but He will not force us against our will. We have to make right choices—and going against what God has given in His word will surly bring on us the end result of disobedience, which is pain and suffering, then death.

It is cause and effect, but reflecting back to the beginning of this article; God can guide those who will yield to Him and sometimes they do see and avoid certain things, with His help. Even if it is an after the fact thing and we have genuinely repented of it, God may choose to remove the results of a wrong choice. (Another article that may be of interest is titled Physical vs. Spiritual)
